CEPID has organized a series of training courses for journalists in burundi

The Center for the Advancement of the Information and Development (CEPID) has organized three training sessions between may and June 2024. These sessions were attended by a dozen journalists who are passionate and committed to strengthen their skills.

The CEPID hosted three training sessions in partnership with the international NGO Free Press Unlimited (FPU). These activities fall within the framework of the implementation of the project " Access to reliable information in Burundi "supported financially by the European Union (EU). In all, 15 journalists have been trained in three sessions : from 13 to 17 may 2024, from 3 to 7 June, and from 24 to 28 June 2024, in the premises of the Press House in Bujumbura.

These training sessions thematic focused on the fundamentals of the profession of journalist, and filters up-to-date information, including :

– Ethics and the ethics of journalism

– Gender and media

– The fight against disinformation, and the introduction to fact-checking.

Training beneficial for journalists burundian

The launching ceremonies of these activities have been honoured by the presence of the representative of Free Press Unlimited in Burundi, in charge of the House of the Press, as well as the Association of Women Journalists in Burundi (AFJO).

Pascal Chirhalwirwa, representative of Free Press Unlimited in Burundi, has emphasized the commitment of this organization to contribute to the professionalization of the press in burundi, with a special focus on the new generation of journalists. For the president of the CEPID, Patrick Niyonkuru, the job of the journalist is one of the fundamental pillars of the progress of humanity, hence the importance to invest more efforts and attention.
